Week Two: The American Academy in Rome

This evening we we to the beautiful Villa Auriela (pictures below) on the top of the hill where the Academy is located. It has magnificent gardens and beautiful vistas of the city and is owned by the -American Academy. Charles Ray the California artist was here to speak. His sculpture exhibition opens tomorrow. Also had dinner with the great historian and critic Barbara Rose who curated the Lee Krasner exhibition at MoMA. That’s me and Barbara in the picture below at the far right. Very exciting!

Below, in Rome at the Maxxi (new contemporary museum by Zaha Hadid) in a twinkle tree and Matisse at the Vatican Museum, that’s my daughter Lee Ann Earle.

And then, below. there’s the Trevi Fountain which has just been restored and is gorgeous! But so many fountains in Rome that I am sure I’ll never get to see all of them!
